I'm
so excited... really bubbling over. I've just completed my
second photo shoot for Littlewoods even more and it was
fabulous. All the pieces of the jigsaw came together, all the
hard work paid off.
Let
me back up a bit. The first meeting was in a large empty studio
in Kentish Town, north London - a far cry from the glamour of
Hollywood or indeed the beauty of Malibu where we finally did
the shoot. The objective was to try on the basic designs for the
new Berkertex range, suggest modifications, add detail, agree
presentation and to make it as fabulous as possible.
I have to
confess to having a crusading desire to dress middle-aged women
elegantly. I want to help to cover up the bits that wobble and
to show the bits that still make men weak at the knees - which
these days I often think comes down to a sense of humour and
nice clean lines. Fortunately, the talented in-house designers
at Berkertex not only have all the knowledge of the business but
they also seem to be mind readers.
The
scene that ensued reminded me of Walt Disney's Cinderella
when those heavenly birds and mice were cutting and snipping,
draping and winding and Cinderella was definitely going to the
ball. It was clear that we had the beginning of a great range.
Cut
to November in Malibu, US, where the weather is gorgeous all
year round. Well almost. We arrived to thick sea fog and foul
coastal rain: NOT the ideal set -up for an outdoor photo shoot.
I got to the studio for the photo shoot feeling rather down, but
I walked in and gasped. A very talented and experienced
photographer had pulled off a fine piece of theatrical lighting.
He had made the sun shine; golden streams of light were pouring
through the room supposedly from the window.
We
shot for three days and on the last day the real sun came out
and we shot by the pool, and Malibu was Malibu, And here's a
sneak preview of the finished collection - I hope you like it.
It's been a real pleasure doing It for you, I particularly like
the white trouser suit. It's just perfect for special occasions
- look out for the full range in your Summer book.
